We have two different types of straightening. We have the conventional, which is where it's the brackets that have the wire. What's really nice now about those brackets and wires is the old metal mount that we may have had, these brackets have gotten very small. We use a micro bracket actually that is allowing us to continuously move the teeth along the way. The individual doesn't have to do any additional work and such other than maybe a little home care on how to keep the area clean. But they don't have to change things in their mouth.
The other type of orthodontic or straightening of teeth is with clear aligners, Invisalign being an example of that. Basically, they're a thin tray that is actually made to gently move the teeth over a two-week period of time. There's a series of trays that may be, let's say, 30 trays or such, and each one is incrementally moving the teeth along the way. What's nice about clear aligner therapy is that individual is allowed to take off their appliance to clean their teeth, and of course, while eating too. We wouldn't use the appliance then. But basically for about 22 hours out of the day, we're wearing the aligners and we're able to move the teeth, indiscreetly. Many teachers, individuals, professionals that don't want to do the braces and they still want to straighten them, and we understand. You might have a strong interest in having your teeth straightened, and so the only way that we really can tell is the heavy come in and do a consultation. Then we can determine whether orthodontic straightening the teeth is an option.

Feel Less Self-Conscious With Invisalign for Adults & Teens
If you want to change your smile’s alignment, we offer traditional braces and Invisalign. Both options can fix overbites and underbites and correct crooked and crowded teeth. If you have gaps between your teeth, orthodontic care can help you close those, too.
Braces are a time-tested technology that uses a series of brackets and wires to gradually move your teeth. Braces can fix even severe alignment issues. Plus, the technology in modern braces makes them more effective than they have ever been.Image Title: youtube thumbnail - s0webG-ZhYA Doctor Robert Chase on Invisalign Read Transcript
It's been nice. Technology that's become available on the last 20 years is utilizing aligners to move teeth instead of the conventional wire and brackets. Patients, they may be in either a professional career, or that they're just in front of the public eye, that to go with conventional braces just probably wouldn't work for them. The clear aligners actually allow you to continue talking and speaking. They're basically invisible, and we can actually take those out to eat as well as to brush the teeth, so we get really good home care that way. We're able to, with Invisalign, to move individual teeth, whereas in even conventional braces, it's a little bit more difficult to do that, so it does have some of these advantages.
In some cases, we'll find that it may be still in the best interest for a patient to have the conventional wire-and-bracket orthodontics. Most we're finding that with the option of the Invisalign, patients feel more comfortable going out in public, especially as an adult. Our teenage kids, we're finding that they may go either way, conventional or teen Invisalign. But as for adults, we find a majority are looking at the Invisalign and getting very good results.
Yet many patients may feel self-conscious about wearing braces. For them, Invisalign is a great alternative. Invisalign replaces the brackets and wires with plastic aligners. These “invisible braces” are a great way to improve your oral health and build confidence in your smile without obvious metal hardware. Other benefits include:
- No sharp metal or hard edges to irritate the inside of your mouth
- Removable for eating and for cleaning your teeth
- Realigning your smile in as few as nine months

Many people focus on the cosmetic benefits of a straight smile, which is perfectly understandable. After all, everyone wants to have nice teeth! At the same time, you shouldn’t overlook the health benefits as well.
You may not be able to brush and floss as well as you should when your teeth are crooked or if you have bite issues (such as an overbite or underbite). Plaque and tartar can build in the places where a toothbrush or dental floss can’t reach. This raises your risk of tooth decay and gum disease. With straight teeth, it’s easier to get rid of cavity-causing bacteria and food particles before problems develop.
