Find Out How to Straighten Your Smile
We have two different types of straightening. We have the conventional, which is where it’s the brackets that have the wire. What’s really nice now about those brackets and wires is the old metal mount that we may have had, these brackets have gotten very small. We use a micro bracket actually that is allowing us to continuously move the teeth along the way. The individual doesn’t have to do any additional work and such other than maybe a little home care on how to keep the area clean. But they don’t have to change things in their mouth.
The other type of orthodontic or straightening of teeth is with clear aligners, Invisalign being an example of that. Basically, they’re a thin tray that is actually made to gently move the teeth over a two-week period of time. There’s a series of trays that may be, let’s say, 30 trays or such, and each one is incrementally moving the teeth along the way. What’s nice about clear aligner therapy is that individual is allowed to take off their appliance to clean their teeth, and of course, while eating too. We wouldn’t use the appliance then. But basically for about 22 hours out of the day, we’re wearing the aligners and we’re able to move the teeth, indiscreetly. Many teachers, individuals, professionals that don’t want to do the braces and they still want to straighten them, and we understand. You might have a strong interest in having your teeth straightened, and so the only way that we really can tell is the heavy come in and do a consultation. Then we can determine whether orthodontic straightening the teeth is an option.
